What should have been a joyful journey home turned tragic for two families after a late-night bus crash in Karol Bagh claimed the lives of two men, leaving behind grief and unanswered questions.
🚨 Fatal crash claims two lives
Mahesh Kumar (23), a daily-wage labourer from Bareilly, and Shehbaz Alam (30), a garment shop owner from Bijnor, died after the Jaipur-Delhi sleeper bus they were travelling in overturned.
Both were rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital but succumbed to their injuries the same night.
💔 Dreams cut short
Mahesh was on his way home for his wedding scheduled on April 20. His brother Mukesh, who survived the crash, recalled how the family had already begun preparations.
“He was going home for his own wedding… everything is over now,” he said, describing how Mahesh was trapped under the bus after it overturned.
👨👩👧 A family waiting in vain
For Shehbaz Alam, the journey was meant to reunite him with his pregnant wife. Married just last year, he was eagerly looking forward to becoming a father.
“He was very family-oriented and excited about the baby,” said his cousin, adding to the heartbreak of the loss.
⚠️ Overspeeding allegations emerge
Survivors have alleged that the driver was overspeeding despite repeated warnings. Passengers claimed they urged him to slow down, but he ignored their requests, reportedly insisting on reaching Delhi quickly.
One injured passenger said the driver’s negligence led to the deaths and injuries of several others.
🚓 Driver in custody, probe underway
The bus driver, who was also injured in the crash, has been taken into police custody. Authorities are investigating the incident, including allegations of rash driving.
🕊️ Grief and questions remain
The tragedy has left families shattered, with one life cut short just before a wedding and another before the birth of a child.
The incident once again raises concerns over road safety and the dangers of reckless driving on highways.
