A man was arrested on Thursday from the Sabhapur underpass in Ankur Vihar for allegedly killing his friend following a personal dispute, police said.
The accused has been identified as Arun Kumar. He is accused of killing Amarpal Singh, whose body was found on Tuesday in an empty plot in Chaman Vihar.
Body found in vacant plot
Police said they received information on Tuesday about a body lying in an open area in Chaman Vihar. Upon verification, the deceased was identified as Amarpal Singh, who worked as a spare parts supplier.
Amarpal’s family includes his father, who works as a cook, his elder brother Pradeep, an e-rickshaw driver, and a younger brother who is a student.
Complaint led to arrest
Pradeep lodged a formal complaint on Thursday, following which police traced and arrested Arun Kumar from the Sabhapur underpass area in Ankur Vihar.
During the arrest, police recovered two mobile phones belonging to Amarpal from the accused.
Dispute among friends turned fatal
According to ACP Loni Siddharth Gautam, preliminary investigation revealed that Arun and Amarpal were neighbours and childhood friends. A third person, Chandan, was also a close associate of both.
Police said the incident was triggered after Arun’s sister requested Chandan to drop his sick wife to a hospital on his motorcycle, which Chandan reportedly refused. This led to an argument between Arun and Chandan later that evening.
Amarpal allegedly intervened in support of Chandan and verbally abused Arun during the argument. Police believe this angered Arun, who later planned to confront Amarpal, leading to the fatal incident.
Investigation continues
Arun Kumar has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events and gather additional evidence.
Police said the accused will be produced before a court, and appropriate legal action will follow based on the findings of the investigation.
