A tragic incident was reported from a residential society in Sector 102, where a 35-year-old man allegedly jumped from the 23rd floor with his two-year-old daughter in his arms, resulting in the death of both.

Incident in residential complex

The deceased has been identified as Rahul Vijayran, a private school operator from Delhi’s Nangloi area. The incident occurred around 7.30 am on Monday.

According to police, Vijayran had taken his daughter Vamika to the society premises in the morning. He later went to the 23rd floor of another tower within the complex and allegedly jumped.

Found in critical condition

Residents rushed to the scene after hearing a commotion and found the man and the child lying on the ground. They were immediately taken to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared both dead.

Family cites health distress

Family members told police that Vijayran had been dealing with health-related distress after losing vision in one eye due to complications during the COVID-19 pandemic. His brother said he also had limited vision in the other eye, which had deeply affected him.

Vijayran had been living in the society for the past two months and ran a school in Delhi’s Kirari area.

Investigation underway

Police said the case remains under investigation, particularly as Vijayran reportedly jumped from a tower different from the one he resided in, raising questions about the circumstances leading to the incident.

No suicide note was recovered from the spot. The family has reportedly declined to pursue further legal action at this stage.

Call for awareness and support

The incident highlights the importance of mental health awareness and timely support for individuals dealing with emotional or physical distress.

Authorities have urged people to seek help during difficult times, noting that support systems are crucial in preventing such tragedies.
