A 32-year-old man lost his life in a horrific road accident near Kherki Pul in Faridabad on Saturday afternoon after an iron rod pierced his chest when the auto-rickshaw he was travelling in rammed into a bullock cart, police said on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Dheeraj Kumar, a native of Bihar, who was residing in Bharti Colony, Faridabad.
Accident near Kherki Pul
According to police, the accident occurred around 12.35 pm near Kherki Pul. Dheeraj was travelling in an auto-rickshaw along with his brother-in-law Ashok when the three-wheeler collided with a bullock cart carrying uncovered iron rods.
Investigators said the bullock cart allegedly applied sudden brakes in the middle of the road. Although the auto driver attempted to stop, the vehicle could not halt in time, resulting in the collision. One of the iron rods reportedly pierced Dheeraj’s chest, causing fatal injuries.
Rushed to hospital, declared dead
Dheeraj was rushed to BK Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Police said the auto-rickshaw driver dropped the injured men at the hospital and fled the scene soon after.
A senior police officer confirmed that Dheeraj had arrived in Faridabad from Bihar only a day before the accident.
Police begin investigation
Inspector Devender, station house officer of the Kherki Pul police station, said police have started an investigation despite no formal complaint being filed so far. The victim’s family has been informed and is expected to arrive in Faridabad shortly, after which the postmortem will be conducted.
Police are analysing CCTV footage from the area to identify both the auto-rickshaw driver and the bullock cart driver. Further action will be decided based on the autopsy report and findings of the investigation.
Safety concerns raised
The incident has once again raised serious concerns about road safety, particularly the movement of slow-moving vehicles carrying hazardous, uncovered materials on busy urban roads without adequate safety precautions.
