In a disturbing incident from Gatti Jatta village in Dharamkot town, Moga district (Punjab), a longstanding property dispute between two brothers escalated into attempted murder, leaving three members of a family injured. The entire incident was captured on CCTV, causing fear and outrage among villagers.
According to police reports, Dilbagh Singh, enraged over his parents moving in with his elder brother Balwinder Singh, intentionally rammed his car into Balwinder’s family, critically injuring Balwinder, his wife, and daughter. The attack occurred on July 14, when the family was standing at their gate.
The conflict stems from a property disagreement. A month earlier, Dilbagh had allegedly evicted his elderly parents from his home. The couple then began living with their elder son, Balwinder, further straining the relationship between the brothers.
On the day of the incident, Dilbagh was passing by in a car with his wife. After seeing Balwinder with the family, he dropped his wife off, turned the vehicle around, and drove it directly into the group at high speed.
Locals rushed to help and took the injured to a private hospital in Moga, where they are now reported to be in stable condition. Victim Balwinder Singh alleged previous threats from Dilbagh and stated, “Had villagers not intervened, we may not have survived.”
Police have registered a case against Dilbagh and his wife based on the victim’s statement. DSP Ramandeep Singh confirmed that the CCTV footage has been seized, and the accused, currently absconding, will be arrested soon.
The case has reignited debate around inheritance disputes and violence within families, prompting calls for timely legal mediation and mental health awareness in conflict resolution.
