A massive fire broke out at Pasighat’s vegetable market near IGJ Hr. Secondary School and the Airport area on Tuesday evening, destroying 108 market sheds. The fire, which started around 9 pm, is believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
Although the fire was eventually brought under control by the fire service team, the damage was extensive, with most of the market stalls completely burned down. The incident has left vendors in distress, as their livelihoods were destroyed.
A team from the Standing Board, including chairperson Olak Apang, along with electrical and PHED AEs, and officers from the fire and police stations, visited the site to assess the damage. They also met with the affected vendors to offer support. The vendors were instructed to submit the necessary documents to the District Disaster Management Office (DDMO) for expedited relief assistance processing.
