Massive landslides have struck several hilly areas near Meppadi in Wayanad district, Kerala, early Tuesday, with fears that numerous people may be trapped.
Reports indicate that hundreds might be caught in the disaster. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has deployed Fireforce and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to the region. An additional NDRF team is en route to Wayanad.
The KSDMA also announced that two teams from the Kannur Defence Security Corps have been dispatched to assist with the rescue efforts. However, ongoing heavy rainfall is complicating the rescue operations.
