Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the murder of the party’s Tamil Nadu chief, K Armstrong, on Sunday. She criticized the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu, emphasizing that those responsible for Armstrong’s killing had not been apprehended.

Mayawati expressed her party’s determination to protest the incident, stating, “Our party has taken this incident very seriously and we will not remain silent. Our state unit will exert pressure on the government to refer this case to the CBI.” She also urged her party members to seek justice within legal boundaries.

Armstrong was fatally attacked near his Chennai residence in Perambur on Friday. The police have arrested eight suspects and seized several blood-stained weapons, along with items linking the suspects to the crime scene.

Asra Garg, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), North Chennai, explained that the suspects, associates of deceased gangster Arcot Suresh, believed Armstrong was involved in Suresh’s murder last year. He clarified that the motive behind Armstrong’s murder was likely retaliation for Suresh’s killing.

Earlier, the Chennai police had ruled out political motives in Armstrong’s murder.
