In a tragic and puzzling incident, Bhavapoorani, a first-year MD Anesthesiology student at PSG Medical College in Peelamedu, Coimbatore, was found dead in her hostel bathroom on Sunday morning, raising serious questions about the circumstances of her death.
The 27-year-old, a native of Vagurampatti village in Namakkal district, was also a practicing doctor at PSG Hospital. According to Peelamedu police, Bhavapoorani went to the washroom around 2 a.m. on July 5 (Saturday) but never returned. When fellow students noticed her prolonged absence, they broke open the door around 7 a.m. on Sunday and discovered her lying unresponsive inside.
She was declared dead, and her body has been sent to ESI Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Her father, Kandaswami, has filed a formal complaint, seeking a detailed investigation, expressing doubts about the cause of death. He told police that Bhavapoorani had no history of breathing issues, contradicting preliminary observations from doctors that she may have fainted due to respiratory problems.
The Peelamedu police have registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which pertains to unnatural or suspicious deaths. Officials said that conclusive test results may take up to a month, and investigations are ongoing.
The mysterious nature of the death has left the campus and family members in deep shock, with many calling for transparency and accountability in the inquiry.
