Four candidates aged 25 have emerged as the youngest Members of Parliament (MPs) following their victories in the recent Lok Sabha elections. Pushpendra Saroj and Priya Saroj contested on the ticket of the Samajwadi Party, while Shambhavi Choudhary and Sanjana Jatav represented the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and the Congress, respectively.
Shambhavi Choudhary, daughter of Ashok Choudhary, a minister in the Nitish Kumar cabinet in Bihar, secured victory in the Samastipur constituency by defeating her closest competitor, Sunny Hazari of the Congress, with a significant margin. Sunny Hazari, son of JD(U) minister Maheshwar Hazari, was her nearest rival.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously commended Shambhavi as the youngest NDA candidate during a campaign rally.
Sanjana Jatav clinched victory in the Bharatpur constituency in Rajasthan, triumphing over BJP’s Ramswaroop Koli by a margin of 51,983 votes. Despite her loss in the 2023 Assembly elections to BJP’s Ramesh Khedi by a narrow margin of 409 votes, Sanjana emerged victorious this time. She is married to Kaptan Singh, a constable in the Rajasthan police force.
Pushpendra Saroj, son of five-time MLA and former Uttar Pradesh Minister Inderjit Saroj, contested as a SP candidate from the Kaushambi parliamentary seat, previously held by the BJP. He secured victory by defeating incumbent BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar with a margin of 103,944 votes.
Priya Saroj, daughter of three-time MP Toofani Saroj, won from the Machhlishahr seat with a margin of 35,850 votes. She faced incumbent BJP MP Bholanath in the electoral battle.
