A migrant worker was brutally attacked with sickles by four minors in Thiruvallur district, leaving him critically injured. The incident came to light after a disturbing video of the assault surfaced on social media, triggering widespread outrage and calls for strict action.
Attack began on a moving train
The victim has been identified as Siraj (34), a native of Kolhapur, who was working in Tamil Nadu. According to police, Siraj was first targeted while travelling on a moving train. The four minors allegedly threatened him with sickles, swords and a knife, while also recording videos of the intimidation on their mobile phones.
What began as verbal abuse and threats soon escalated into extreme violence. Siraj was reportedly forced off the train and taken to a secluded area near a railway station, where the group launched a brutal attack.

Brutal assault filmed by attackers
Police said the minors repeatedly attacked Siraj with sickles, causing severe injuries. The attackers allegedly filmed the entire assault themselves. One clip from the viral video shows an attacker flashing a victory sign after the attack, a moment that has fuelled public anger and condemnation.
Siraj was rushed to hospital in critical condition. Doctors have confirmed that he sustained multiple deep injuries and remains under intensive treatment.
Four juveniles arrested
During the investigation, police analysed the viral video footage and identified all four attackers as juveniles aged 17. They were identified as Nandakopal from Harichandrapuram near Tiruvallangadu, Santhosh from Arakkonam, Vicky, and another Santhosh from Nemili near Tiruttani.
Preliminary findings suggest the minors were under the influence of ganja at the time of the crime. Police said the group allegedly held a knife to Siraj’s neck and threatened him before carrying out the violent attack when he resisted.
All four juveniles have been apprehended and produced before the appropriate juvenile justice authorities. A detailed investigation is ongoing to determine the sequence of events and possible motives behind the assault.

The incident has reignited concerns over the safety of migrant workers travelling for employment across states. Social media users and activists have called for stronger protection measures, better monitoring on trains and stricter action against violent crimes involving minors.
