A shocking incident from Tamil Nadu has once again raised serious concerns over juvenile crime and the dangerous pursuit of social media fame, after four youths allegedly harassed and stabbed a migrant worker on a moving train, later uploading the act as an Instagram reel.
Attack on moving train
According to police, the incident occurred on a train travelling between Chennai and Tiruttani. The victim, a migrant worker whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was allegedly targeted by four youths who boarded the train and began harassing him.
Investigators said the youths attacked the man with a sharp weapon while the train was in motion, inflicting stab injuries before pushing him off or abandoning him near Tiruttani railway station.
Victim rescued just in time
The injured man was later found unconscious near the railway tracks close to Tiruttani station. A passerby noticed him lying motionless and immediately alerted the police, enabling authorities to rush him to hospital.
Doctors said timely medical intervention saved the victim’s life. He is currently undergoing treatment, and his condition is reported to be stable.
Reel uploaded for social media attention
What has deeply disturbed both police and the public is that the accused allegedly recorded the assault and uploaded it as a reel on Instagram, apparently seeking online attention and notoriety.
Railway Police sources said the video has since been removed, but copies were circulated before action could be taken. The content has been described as graphic and disturbing.
Police action and wider concerns
Police have launched a manhunt to trace and detain the four youths involved. Officials said preliminary findings suggest that some of the accused may be minors, prompting further legal scrutiny under juvenile justice provisions.
The incident has also brought renewed focus on passenger safety aboard Indian Railways, especially on suburban and intercity routes where migrant workers frequently travel.

Authorities have warned that filming or sharing violent acts on social media constitutes a serious criminal offence, attracting stringent punishment.
