Srinagar: A militant was killed and a soldier injured on Saturday in a gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district.
According to initial reports, security forces cordoned off Doubjan forest area in Shopian district following specific information regarding the presence of militants in the surroundings. “Security forces surrounded the Dubjan forest area following information about a group of terrorists hiding there,” said Defence spokesman, Colonel Rajesh Kalia.
“As the cordon was being laid, militants opened fire, which was duly retaliated triggering an encounter. So far one militant has been killed,” an army officer said, adding: “One soldier has been injured, and he has been evacuated,” he added. He said that three to four militants were believed to be trapped.
The soldier’s condition was said to be stable.
