Actor-turned-BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty on Tuesday criticised former Pakistan foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for his renewed warning to India regarding amendments to the Indus Waters Treaty. Speaking to reporters in Kolkata, Chakraborty cautioned that if such statements persisted and India lost patience, “BrahMos missiles would be launched one after another.”
In a sarcastic follow-up, he added that India could construct a dam where “140 crore people will urinate,” then release the water to cause a tsunami—clarifying his comments targeted Bilawal personally, not the people of Pakistan.
Bilawal, addressing an event organised by the Sindh government’s Culture Department, alleged that diverting Indus River waters away from Pakistan was an assault on the nation’s history, culture, and civilisation, with Sindh facing the greatest impact.
In a separate escalation, Pakistan Army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir allegedly issued direct threats concerning the treaty during a private dinner in Tampa, Florida. Speaking to members of the Pakistani diaspora, Munir warned that if the suspension continued, Pakistan would launch missile strikes on Indian dams, adding that once a dam was built, “we will destroy it with ten missiles.”
The black-tie event, hosted by Pakistan’s honorary consul, was attended by about 120 guests. No official transcript was released, but multiple eyewitnesses claimed to have heard Munir’s remarks, which have since been reported in the media.
