Modi signals support for US initiative
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed US President Donald Trump’s new blueprint to end the Gaza conflict, calling it a “viable pathway” to long-term peace in West Asia. Trump, however, did not add any words of his own, merely resharing Modi’s message of support on his Truth Social account.
India’s endorsement of the plan
In his post, Modi said India “welcomes President Donald J. Trump’s announcement of a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict.” He added that the framework could deliver “sustainable peace, security and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as also for the larger West Asian region.”
The Prime Minister also urged all parties to unite behind Washington’s effort, underlining India’s position as a supporter of diplomatic solutions to the decades-old 
Details of the US proposal
The White House has rolled out a 20-point plan, which includes:
- An immediate ceasefire
- Hostage-prisoner exchange
- Phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza
- Hamas disarmament
- Creation of a transitional government overseen by an international body
The proposal was announced after Trump met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.
Trump and Netanyahu’s response
Standing alongside Netanyahu, Trump said the two sides were “beyond very close” to a deal but warned that Israel would retain America’s “full support” if Hamas rejected the plan. Netanyahu praised Trump as a “friend of Israel” but expressed unease over aspects of the proposal, including reforms to the Palestinian Authority and the issue of Palestinian statehood.
Hamas weighs response
Hamas officials have said the militant group will study the plan internally and consult with other Palestinian factions before issuing a response. The US blueprint requires Hamas to disarm in exchange for humanitarian aid, reconstruction funds, and an end to hostilities. Trump has given Hamas “three or four days” to provide an answer.
International push for peace
The Biden-era deadlock on Gaza has given way to Trump’s more direct intervention, which he has described as his administration’s boldest step toward resolving the Middle East’s bloodiest crisis. International support is building, with India among the first major countries to openly back the plan.
