New Delhi: As the nation marked one year of Operation Sindoor on May 7, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that India remains unwavering in its resolve to defeat terrorism and dismantle the ecosystem supporting it.
Operation Sindoor was launched in the early hours of May 7, 2025, as a retaliatory military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that had claimed the lives of 26 civilians.
Under the operation, Indian armed forces carried out precision air and missile strikes targeting terror infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Nine terror camps targeted during operation
According to official statements issued at the time, Indian forces struck nine terror camps linked to banned terror outfits, including Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The operation reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 100 terrorists.
Military hostilities between India and Pakistan ended on May 10 following military-level talks between the two countries.
Operation Sindoor was widely viewed as one of India’s strongest military responses to cross-border terrorism in recent years.
PM Modi praises armed forces
In a post shared on X, Prime Minister Modi praised the armed forces for what he described as “unparalleled courage, precision and resolve” displayed during the operation.
“A year ago, our armed forces displayed unparalleled courage, precision and resolve during #OperationSindoor. They gave a fitting response to those who dared to attack innocent Indians at Pahalgam. The entire nation salutes our forces for their valour,” the Prime Minister stated.
Modi said the operation reflected India’s firm stand against terrorism and highlighted the country’s unwavering commitment to national security.
He further stated that the strikes showcased the professionalism, preparedness, and coordinated capabilities of the Indian armed forces.
Focus on defence preparedness and self-reliance
The Prime Minister also highlighted the growing coordination among the armed services and pointed to the benefits of India’s push towards defence self-reliance.
Officials noted that the operation accelerated India’s focus on strengthening military preparedness and modern warfare capabilities.
Following Operation Sindoor, the Indian armed forces reportedly intensified efforts to enhance:
- Drone warfare systems
- Missile capabilities
- Surveillance technologies
- Artificial intelligence-driven combat systems
- Integrated military coordination
Defence analysts viewed these developments as part of India’s broader strategy to modernise its armed forces in response to evolving security threats.
NDA leaders mark anniversary online
To commemorate the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, Prime Minister Modi and several leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) changed their social media profile photographs to the operation’s official logo.
The symbolic gesture was widely shared online and became part of anniversary tributes to the armed forces.
Supporters described the operation as a demonstration of India’s willingness to respond strongly to terror attacks targeting civilians.
Operation seen as message against terrorism
Operation Sindoor had drawn significant international attention when it was launched last year, particularly due to the scale and precision of the strikes.
At the time, Prime Minister Modi had asserted that India would not tolerate “nuclear blackmail” from Pakistan while dealing with terrorism-related threats.
Security experts believe the operation marked a significant shift in India’s counter-terrorism posture, signalling a more assertive military response to cross-border attacks.
The anniversary has once again brought attention to India’s ongoing efforts to strengthen internal security and military readiness amid regional security challenges.
Nation pays tribute to armed forces
Across the country, tributes were paid to the armed forces for their role in carrying out the operation.
Political leaders, defence personnel, and citizens shared messages honouring the courage and sacrifice of the military.
Government officials reiterated that India remains committed to protecting national security and combating terrorism through coordinated diplomatic, intelligence, and military efforts.
One year after Operation Sindoor, the operation continues to be remembered as a defining moment in India’s recent counter-terrorism and defence strategy.
