Bhadohi: A 46-year-old woman was killed by a train while allegedly trying to save her 20-year-old son, who had rushed towards the railway tracks after she refused to give him money to buy liquor, police said.
The incident occurred near the Indira Mill railway crossing in the Kotwali area of Bhadohi late on Thursday evening.
The woman, identified as Shiv Kumari, died at the spot. Her son, Vishal Rajbhar, sustained injuries and was initially admitted to the district hospital before being referred to the BHU Trauma Centre in Varanasi.
Son allegedly rushed towards railway tracks
According to Kotwali SHO Shailesh Kumar Rai, Shiv Kumari, a resident of Chakbhuindhar village, had gone to a private nursing home in the city to meet her elder daughter, Pushpa Rajbhar, who had recently delivered a baby boy.
Vishal had accompanied his mother to the nursing home.
Police said Vishal had already consumed alcohol when he asked his mother for money to buy liquor. When she refused, an argument reportedly broke out between the two.
Vishal then allegedly threatened to jump in front of a train and rushed out of the nursing home towards the railway tracks.
Mother follows son onto tracks
Police said Shiv Kumari followed her son in an attempt to stop him and save him from harm.
During the incident, she was struck by a train and died at the spot. Vishal was also injured and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and the sequence of events that led to the woman’s death.
