A government school teacher in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district has been suspended after a video showing him mimicking Prime Minister Narendra Modi while commenting on LPG cylinder prices went viral on social media.
The teacher, identified as Saket Purohit, works at a government primary school in Adivasi Mohalla Semarkhedi under Pohri block.
Suspension ordered after inquiry
According to District Education Officer Vivek Srivastava, Purohit was suspended late Friday night under the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services Rules.
The suspension followed a preliminary inquiry conducted by the district education office after the video circulated widely online.
In the video, Purohit is reportedly heard making satirical remarks about the rising price of LPG cylinders and suggesting that people may return to cooking rotis on traditional stoves.
Complaint filed by local MLA
The inquiry was initiated after a written complaint was submitted by Preetam Lodhi, BJP MLA from Pichhore.
In the complaint, Lodhi alleged that the teacher’s remarks and mimicry of the Prime Minister and other public representatives violated service conduct rules and conveyed an inappropriate message.
Officials said the inquiry found that Purohit’s actions were contrary to the conduct rules applicable to government employees.
Teacher calls action one-sided
Following the suspension, Purohit said the action taken against him was one-sided.
He claimed that he had not received a show-cause notice and was not given an opportunity to present his explanation before the suspension order was issued.
During the suspension period, Purohit will be attached to the Block Education Office in Badarwas and will receive a subsistence allowance as per government rules.
