Mumbai: A bomb threat email sent to the Bombay High Court has triggered a security alert across Mumbai, with the message also threatening the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Worli Racecourse and Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan‘s bungalow, Jalsa.
Following the threat, Mumbai Police and other security agencies stepped up checks at the locations named in the email. Security teams conducted thorough searches, but no suspicious object was found.
Police have launched an investigation to trace the sender and establish the origin of the email. Mumbai Police said the threat was being taken seriously, with agencies examining the message and the locations it identified.
The latest warning has added to a series of threats reported in the city in recent weeks. Bachchan’s Juhu residence had also figured in an earlier threat email that mentioned a possible attack during singer Diljit Dosanjh’s Mumbai concert and threatened the office of Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde.
Earlier threat email also named Bachchan’s residence
The latest alert comes after another threatening email was sent on October 23 to the office of Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde. The message reportedly named Bachchan’s Juhu residence and the venue of singer Diljit Dosanjh’s Mumbai concert, scheduled for November 27.
The email was also marked to Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi. According to reports, it claimed that a bomb blast would take place at the mayor’s office inside the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters at 3.11 pm. It also warned of a grenade attack on a school on October 31 and threatened Bachchan’s residence, Jalsa, between October 31 and November 27.
The message reportedly made references to Khalistan and claimed that an attack would take place during Dosanjh’s concert in Mumbai. Police searched the BMC premises following the warning but found nothing suspicious. Authorities also ordered increased security and surveillance at the locations mentioned in the email, including the mayor’s office, Mahalaxmi Racecourse and prominent educational institutions across the city. Amitabh Bachchan greets fans behind bulletproof glass
The earlier threat also led to additional security precautions around Bachchan’s residence. On November 1, the actor continued his decades-old Sunday tradition of greeting fans gathered outside Jalsa, but did so from behind a bulletproof glass enclosure.
The arrangement provided an additional layer of protection while allowing the actor to maintain his regular interaction with admirers. Fans often gather outside his Juhu residence on Sundays in the hope of seeing him.
Bachchan’s appearance behind the protective enclosure drew attention because it came shortly after the October 23 email had named his home as a possible target. The actor’s decision to continue the weekly tradition despite the security concerns was widely noted.
Police probe latest email and earlier threats
The latest email has renewed security concerns around prominent public places and high-profile individuals in Mumbai. The Bombay High Court and BSE are important public and financial institutions, while the Worli Racecourse and Jalsa are locations that attract public attention.
Police are now attempting to identify the sender and establish where the latest message originated. Officials have not publicly confirmed whether the November 6 email is connected to the earlier threat involving the mayor’s office, Bachchan’s residence and Dosanjh’s concert.
The fact that searches did not uncover suspicious objects at the locations named in the latest email is an important development. However, the investigation into the source and credibility of the warning remains ongoing. Authorities are examining the communication rather than treating the absence of suspicious material as proof of who sent it or why.
Mumbai has also seen other threat emails targeting public institutions in recent days. Reports said district and sessions courts in several parts of Maharashtra received bomb threats on November 3, prompting security checks and searches. No explosives or suspicious materials were reported during those inspections. Whether those messages are connected to the latest warning has not been established.
For now, the November 6 email has placed the Bombay High Court, BSE, Worli Racecourse and Amitabh Bachchan’s Jalsa residence under renewed security scrutiny. Mumbai Police are continuing their investigation to trace the sender and determine whether the threat has any connection with the earlier messages.
