In a shocking incident, two students died and another remains in critical care after allegedly consuming drugs during a music concert at the NESCO Exhibition Centre.

Police said the victims were students of Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies. The deceased were identified as Shreya Rai, 24, and Bismat Singh Amarjit Singh Bhasin, 28. A third student, Sheetal Salvi, is undergoing treatment in ICU.

Drug supplier arrested

Mumbai Police on Tuesday arrested Anand Patel, who is suspected of supplying Ecstasy pills allegedly consumed by attendees.

Investigators said the drugs were reportedly delivered to customers at the venue using the Porter app.

Patel was produced before court and remanded to police custody.

Five others already held

Police had earlier arrested five persons, including event-linked staff and students, in connection with the case.

Authorities are also probing whether organisers failed to carry out adequate checks to prevent narcotics from entering the venue.

Students collapsed during concert

According to investigators, several college students had attended the event. During the show, two attendees reportedly developed breathing difficulty and collapsed.

Another victim later complained of dizziness and convulsions after consuming alcohol and was hospitalised, where he later died.

Police are awaiting toxicology and post-mortem reports to determine the exact cause of death.

Growing concern over party drugs

The case has reignited concerns over synthetic drug use at nightlife events and youth gatherings.

Medical experts warn that Ecstasy and similar substances can trigger overheating, seizures, cardiac arrest and fatal reactions, especially when mixed with alcohol or taken repeatedly.

Investigation continues

A case has been registered under provisions relating to culpable homicide and narcotics laws. Police are now tracing the larger supply chain and any security lapses linked to the event.#Mumbai #Crime #Concert #Drugs #Police #newskarnataka
