A video showing a Mumbai police officer pushing a man and moving his loaded bicycle out of the way for a VIP convoy has sparked anger online and drawn a strong response from Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora.
Deora shared the video on X, questioning the way the working man appeared to have been treated during traffic restrictions for the convoy.
He was simply trying to get through
The video shows the man attempting to move through a barricaded stretch while carrying goods on his bicycle.
A police officer approaches him and appears to push both the man and the bicycle aside. The cyclist then loses his balance and falls, while the officer moves the loaded bicycle away from the road.
The incident reportedly happened as a VIP convoy was being allowed to pass through the restricted stretch.
Then the video caught a politician’s attention
Reacting to the footage, Deora said the treatment of the cyclist was unacceptable, regardless of the identity of the VIP being escorted.
He urged Mumbai Police and the Mumbai Traffic Police to take strict action and ensure that such an incident does not happen again.
The cyclist’s fall upset many viewers
The video quickly drew reactions on social media, with several users calling the officer’s behaviour insensitive and inhumane.
Some users said police and authorities should show greater empathy towards ordinary citizens, particularly people trying to earn a living.
Others questioned whether disciplinary action would follow, while several praised Deora for publicly raising the issue.
