Mumbai: Local train services between Kasara and Titwala stations in Thane district, Maharashtra, were halted on Sunday morning due to heavy rains and a fallen tree, officials reported.
Around 6:30 am, soil and debris on the tracks between Atgaon and Thansit stations, caused by intense rainfall and a tree obstruction near Vashind station, disrupted rail traffic along the busy Kalyan-Kasara route.
“A temporary suspension of train services between Kasara and Titwala has been implemented,” stated a spokesperson from the Central Railway (CR).
At the same time, officials declared the affected tracks unsafe, prompting immediate action.
Additionally, a CR spokesperson mentioned that an overhead equipment (OHE) pole had tilted, leading to entanglement with a train’s pantograph near Vashind.
Efforts were swiftly initiated to restore normalcy and clear the tracks, underscoring the critical role of suburban services as Mumbai’s lifeline, serving extensive areas including Thane, Palghar, and Raigad. The CR’s suburban network caters to over 30 lakh commuters daily.
