Mumbai has earned global recognition for its vibrant food scene, securing the 14th spot in Time Out’s list of the world’s 20 best cities for food in 2025. Last year, the city was ranked 8th, but this year, it still maintains its esteemed position among the top food destinations worldwide. The city’s famed street food culture, particularly its bustling khau gallis (food streets), has received a special mention, highlighting the dynamic and diverse range of flavors available. From chaat to jumbo sandwiches, veggie pizzas, and iconic Frankie wraps, Mumbai’s food streets never fail to impress. The publication described the food experience as “never subtle and never shy.”
The rankings were determined by a survey conducted by Time Out, where thousands of locals rated their city’s food on various criteria such as quality, affordability, and culinary innovation. The results were then supplemented by ratings from the publication’s own food critics and experts. New Orleans (USA), Bangkok (Thailand), and Medellin (Colombia) took the top three spots in the 2025 list.
Mumbai’s recognition isn’t isolated. The city was also recently named the 5th best food city globally by Taste Atlas and has made waves in the global food community for its eclectic food offerings. It’s a proud moment for the city, which continues to be a culinary hub, attracting food lovers from all around the world.
