Good news for Mumbai train commuters! Western Railway is set to launch a new air-conditioned (AC) local train on December 25, 2024, adding comfort and convenience to your holiday travel. Recently brought to the Kandivli yard, the train is undergoing final testing before its grand debut.
With an additional 10-12 AC trips being added to the current schedule, this initiative promises to revolutionize the daily commute. The train, manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, reflects the rising demand for premium rail services.
Currently, 1.24 lakh passengers—about 4% of the 31 lakh daily commuters on Western Railway—opt for AC locals. Since the first AC train launched on Christmas 2017, these trains have gained popularity as a cooler and more comfortable alternative. With seven AC rakes already running and one more to join, Western Railway is expanding its fleet to ease overcrowding.
