Harda: After a man was lynched in Dadri for allegedly storing beef at home, here in Madhya Pradesh a Muslim couple was assaulted on a train by members of a self-styled cow protection group for allegedly carrying beef in the luggage.

Act on a tip off that some passenger is carrying beef in Kushinagar Express train, on Wednesday, seven members of the right wing “Gaurakshak Samiti” allegedly got on the train at a station in Harda district and insisted on searching passengers and their baggage.

Naseema Bano and her husband Mohammad Hussain were among the passengers who were allegedly asked to submit to the search.

Bano in her complaint to police stated that she and her husband were beaten up by the self-styled cow protectors when they refused budge to their demand.

When Hussain called upon few of his relatives who lived in the nearby area, a clash broke out between the right wing activists and relatives of Hussain.

Two members of the Gaurakshak Samiti have been arrested and so have nine others from the rival group. All of them have been let off on bail.

The cow protection group found a black bag of meat in the coach, which was examined and found to be buffalo meat.

Recent attacks over alleged cattle-killing or beef-eating have been the focus of a campaign by activists who have alleged rising intolerance in India.
