Dimapur: A devastating fire erupted in the Naharbari area of Dimapur district, Nagaland, claiming the lives of five family members, including three children. The incident unfolded around 10:45 pm on Sunday, engulfing rows of thatched houses primarily inhabited by individuals from a non-Naga community.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire might have been triggered by the bursting of firecrackers during Diwali celebrations. The blaze rapidly spread, affecting around 50 families in the vicinity. Fire and Emergency Services deployed six fire tenders to combat the flames, successfully extinguishing them after nearly two hours.

While the immediate cause appears linked to Diwali festivities, a comprehensive investigation will be conducted to determine the exact circumstances leading to the tragic incident. The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to the police as the affected families grapple with the aftermath of the fire.
