Sabarimala (Kerala): The Nair Service Society, which is one of the outfits of the influential Nair community, on Friday, termed the police action against the devotees who protested against the entry of women of all age groups in the temple in Sabarimala as “unethical and anti-democratic.” Its General Secretary G Sukumaran Nair accused Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and some of his ministers of hurting sentiments of crores of Ayyappa devotees by humiliating the “Lord’s Palace” and his chief priests.
He stated that the Society would stand with the devotees regarding the issue and that they had filed a plea in the Supreme Court seeking a review of the case. He added that a peaceful protest by chanting the deity’s mantras all across the state on the October 31, marking the day as its Flag Day.
This comes after the police arrested hundreds of people for taking part in demonstrations all across the state against the entry of women in the 10-50 age group in the Lord Ayyappa Temple in Sabarimala.
CM Vijayan while addressing an LDF meeting in Kottayam had stated that he would do everything to implement the SC’s order on women’s entry to the temple.
