Nashik: In an extraordinary turn of events, a 19-year-old man who was reportedly declared brain dead by doctors in Nashik, Maharashtra, stunned his grieving family when he began showing signs of life just as they were preparing for his final rites.

The youth, identified as Bhau Lachke, a resident of Trimbakeshwar taluka, had sustained multiple injuries in a serious road accident a few days ago. He was admitted to a private hospital in Adgaon for treatment, where, according to his relatives, doctors declared him brain dead.

Family’s shock as youth begins moving

Believing there was no hope of survival, Lachke’s devastated family began funeral preparations. However, to their shock, the teenager suddenly started making small movements and coughing.

A relative, Gangaram Shinde, told PTI, “While we were preparing for his funeral, he started moving and coughing. We rushed him to the district hospital, where he is undergoing treatment at present. His condition is serious, and he has been put on ventilator support.”

Doctors at the district hospital confirmed that the boy remains in a critical condition and is being closely monitored under ventilator support.

Hospital denies declaring brain death

The incident, while described as “miraculous” by locals, has also sparked confusion. The private hospital management at Adgaon denied having ever declared Lachke brain dead. They clarified that the family may have misunderstood certain medical terminology, leading them to assume that the youth had no chances of survival.

Medical experts point out that brain death is a medically certified and irreversible condition, and revival from such a state is considered impossible. Cases where patients begin moving after being declared brain dead are often due to miscommunication or misinterpretation of medical updates.

Community in disbelief

The incident has left the community both shocked and hopeful, with many calling it a miracle. However, doctors continue to stress that the youth’s condition remains extremely critical and his long-term chances of recovery remain uncertain.
