BIJAPUR (Chhattisgarh): In a chilling reminder of the region’s ongoing insurgency, two villagers were brutally killed by Naxalites in Sendrabor and Aempur villages, located under the Pamed police station limits of Bijapur district, police confirmed on Sunday.

Though the exact timing and motive behind the killings remain unclear, officials are treating the incident as part of a larger pattern of intimidation and retaliatory violence by Maoist forces.

The latest murders come just hours before Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s arrival in Raipur for a two-day visit, intensifying concerns over security preparedness in Naxal-hit areas.

This attack follows another gruesome incident on June 17, where three villagers, including a 13-year-old boy, were strangled to death with ropes in Peddakorma village. Two of the victims were relatives of Dinesh Modiyam, a senior Maoist leader who had surrendered to the police in March, hinting at revenge killings orchestrated by Naxal groups.

Security forces are on high alert across the Bastar region, and an official investigation is underway to confirm the identities of the victims and circumstances of the latest crime.

With Shah’s visit focused on reviewing internal security and development programs in tribal regions, the killings underscore the persistent challenge of left-wing extremism in Chhattisgarh.
