Uttar Pradesh, India’s most politically pivotal state with 80 Lok Sabha seats, has always been a focal point during elections.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP-led NDA secured 62 of the state’s 80 seats, while the BSP and Samajwadi Party, then in alliance, captured 10 and five seats respectively.
Currently, the Samajwadi Party and the Congress have joined forces under the opposition INDIA bloc, while the BSP is contesting independently.
For the Congress, Amethi and Rae Bareli are critical constituencies, especially Amethi, where Rahul Gandhi previously lost to BJP’s Smriti Irani.
The Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party is contesting 62 seats, while the Congress is contesting 17.
The BJP has retained its alliance with Apna Dal (Sonelal) and expanded its coalition to include Jayant Chaudhary’s RLD and OP Rajbhar’s Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party.
Exit polls have suggested an advantage for the NDA in Uttar Pradesh, although leaders of the INDIA bloc have dismissed these projections.
As the counting progresses for all 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, early trends show the NDA leading in 37 seats and INDIA ahead in 29.
