A NEET 2025 candidate from Coimbatore has stirred national attention after scoring 680 marks and securing All India Rank (AIR) 40, only to find her name missing from the official top 100 list released by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

N Abishya from Selvapuram, Coimbatore, who appeared for the medical entrance exam for the third time, outperformed the Tamil Nadu topper with 15 more marks. While Soorya Narayanan S from Tirunelveli, with 665 marks, was officially declared the state topper and ranked AIR 27, Abishya’s superior performance was not reflected in the published top ranks.

Her father, Nelson, voiced his concerns, stating they had already reached out to NTA via email for an explanation. Abishya had scored 570 in the previous attempt, making her current score a significant achievement.

Health minister Ma Subramanian, while in Coimbatore on Sunday to inaugurate government schemes, addressed the issue publicly. He announced that the state would write to NTA through the health secretary, seeking clarity on the scoring anomaly.

The minister also stated that NEET-based counselling would commence shortly. Additionally, a mental health support program for students who did not clear the exam will be launched in Chennai on Monday, offering psychological assistance during this high-pressure period.
