Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday announced that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has achieved two Guinness World Records during the construction of the Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor (NH-544G) in Andhra Pradesh. The records were set for the fastest and largest continuous laying of bituminous concrete on a national highway within a 24-hour period.

The historic milestone was accomplished by private infrastructure firm Rajpath Infracon Private Ltd, which executed the work under NHAI’s supervision. The achievement is being seen as a significant boost to India’s highway construction capabilities and a showcase of engineering efficiency, planning, and workforce coordination.

Record-breaking achievement on NH-544G

In a post shared on social media platform X, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said that NHAI, through Rajpath Infracon, successfully laid 28.95 lane-kilometres of road and used 10,675 metric tonnes of bituminous concrete continuously within 24 hours on the NH-544G corridor.

The two Guinness World Records include one for the maximum lane-kilometres of bituminous concrete laid continuously in a single day and another for the highest quantity of bituminous concrete used within the same time frame.

Calling it a proud moment for Andhra Pradesh and the nation, Naidu said the feat demonstrated India’s growing strength in infrastructure execution and project management.

The Chief Minister credited the achievement to the vision of the Union government and the leadership of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. He said that consistent policy support, timely approvals, and an emphasis on quality infrastructure had enabled such milestones to be achieved.

Naidu also noted that the record-setting work was carried out in full compliance with stringent NHAI quality standards. He emphasised that speed did not come at the cost of quality, safety, or durability, which are critical aspects of highway construction.

“The extraordinary feat reflects the exceptional commitment of engineers, workers, supervisors and field teams who worked relentlessly to make this possible,” Naidu said.

Importance of the economic corridor

The Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor (NH-544G) is a key infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh while strengthening intra-state transport networks. Once completed, the corridor is expected to significantly reduce travel time, improve logistics efficiency, and support industrial and economic growth across multiple districts.

Officials said the corridor would play a crucial role in boosting trade, facilitating faster movement of goods, and attracting investments along its route. The project is also expected to generate employment during both construction and operational phases.

Engineering coordination and execution

Sources in NHAI said the record was made possible due to meticulous planning, deployment of advanced machinery, uninterrupted supply of materials, and round-the-clock coordination among multiple teams. The continuous laying of bituminous concrete required synchronised operations involving asphalt plants, transport vehicles, paving machines, rollers, and quality control units.

Engineers ensured that temperature control, compaction standards, and surface finishing met prescribed norms throughout the 24-hour operation. Officials said such precision was essential to qualify for Guinness World Records verification.

More records in the pipeline

Chief Minister Naidu also announced that two more Guinness World Records are being attempted on Packages Two and Three of the NH-544G economic corridor in Andhra Pradesh. These attempts are scheduled to be completed by January 11.

He extended best wishes to all teams involved and expressed confidence that the upcoming attempts would further enhance Andhra Pradesh’s reputation as a hub for world-class infrastructure development.
