New Delhi: Three years after the Delhi Gang-rape shook the world, one of Nirbhaya’s killers- the juvenile convict is all set to walk free on December 20 after serving three years of maximum detention period under the Juvenile Justice Act.
It is now learnt that the juvenile, who is now 20-years-old is all set to start his new life as a tailor.
A report in a news daily states that the Delhi government’s department of women and child development (WCD) is ready with a rehabilitation plan for the juvenile. Under the plan, Nirbhaya’s killer will get a one-time financial grant of Rs 10,000 and a sewing machine so that he can start his life afresh as a tailor.
The report speaks of the family background of the juvenile, whose father is mentally ill and mother is in a state of shock after learning about her son’s actions. His younger siblings are toiling to meet the needs of the family.
Even as the family may be hoping that the convict, who is the eldest son of the household would come out and ameliorate them from their pathetic condition, the voices opposing his release is louder than the ones pushing for his release.
As per sources, the release may face obstacles till the Delhi High Court intervenes following a petition filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy urging the court to block the juvenile’s release as he was said to be the most brutal of the six-member group that gang-raped and killed 23-year-old aspiring Physiotherapist in December 2012.
The Centre is also opposed to his release after the Intelligence Bureau expressed apprehension that he has been radicalised during his stay at the juvenile care centre.
