Noida: The much-awaited Noida International Airport is set to commence operations from June 15, marking a major milestone in India’s aviation infrastructure. Located in Jewar in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar district, the airport is expected to ease congestion at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

Officials confirmed that the airport has received approval for its Aerodrome Security Programme (ASP) from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, triggering a mandatory 45-day countdown before commercial operations can begin.

Airlines gear up for launch

The airport has already initiated discussions with airlines for ticket bookings and route planning. IndiGo is expected to be the launch carrier, with Akasa Air and Air India Express also planning to operate flights.

Initial domestic routes under consideration include Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. In addition, airlines from West Asia and Southeast Asia have expressed interest in starting international services, which are likely to begin a few months after domestic operations stabilise.

Air India Express is reportedly planning twice-daily services between Noida and Bengaluru, while IndiGo is expected to operate the highest number of flights during the initial phase.

Infrastructure and capacity details

The first phase of the airport has been developed at an estimated cost of ₹11,200 crore under a public-private partnership model.

This phase includes a single runway and terminal, with an annual passenger handling capacity of 12 million. Once fully developed across four phases, the airport is expected to handle up to 70 million passengers annually, positioning it among India’s largest aviation hubs.

Strategic location and connectivity boost

Situated along the Yamuna Expressway, the airport is strategically designed to serve the National Capital Region (NCR) and surrounding areas.

It is expected to significantly reduce traffic pressure on Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport while improving regional and international connectivity.

The new airport is also anticipated to boost economic activity, tourism, and business travel in north India, contributing to overall regional development.

Booking and operations timeline

While airlines have begun internal preparations, officials said that discussions on flight schedules and slot allocations are still ongoing. A formal announcement regarding ticket booking dates is expected soon.

The 45-day operational countdown following security clearance ensures that all systems, safety protocols, and logistics are in place before the official launch.

Conclusion

The launch of Noida International Airport on June 15 marks a significant step in expanding India’s aviation capacity. With major airlines preparing to operate and infrastructure ready in its first phase, the airport is poised to transform connectivity in the NCR and beyond, while easing the burden on Delhi’s existing airport.
