Odisha: Drug Addict Son Strangulate His Sleeping Father to Death

Kanpur Police

Puri: A 56-year-old man was allegedly strangled to death by his own son in Saharatikra village, within the jurisdiction of Bheden police station limits, in Odisha on Monday night.

According to a report published by The New Indian Express, the deceased has been identified as Mangnia Seth, the owner who runs a fabrication unit. Gopal Seth, 28, the younger son of Mangnia Seth, is the prime suspect in this case.

According to sources, Gopal was a drug addict and alcoholic and was recently released from a de-addiction center. Sources said Gopal used to quarrel with his father frequently. On Monday night, Mangni Seth went to sleep on the terrace, and on Tuesday morning, his wife found him dead with visible signs of strangulation and injuries to his knees. Bheden police, with a team of forensic science, rushed to the spot after receiving the news. The police shifted the dead body for autopsy.

Initial assessments suggest that Mangnia succumbed to strangulation, prompting authorities to detain Gopal for questioning. In light of his troubled history and prior altercations with his father, Gopal emerges as the primary focus of the ongoing investigation.

Ashwini Das, the Sarpanch of Talmenda, shed light on Gopal’s turbulent past, marked by recurrent battles with addiction despite attempts at rehabilitation. Despite Mangnia’s efforts to reconcile with his son following previous altercations, the escalating tensions within the family culminated in this harrowing tragedy.
