Abhiram Satpathy, a 67-year-old from Odisha, is on an inspiring mission to promote fitness and warn against tobacco use. Since May 2023, he has covered 10,000 km on foot, carrying just a bag, a pole, water, and essentials like a blanket and bed sheet. His journey began in Darlaga village, leading him through Bhutan, Nepal, and the Indian borders of China, with stops at the Wagah border, Jammu and Kashmir, and Central India, before reaching South India.
Entering Karnataka from Goa on October 10, Abhiram plans to conclude his walk back in Odisha, covering an additional 3,000 km by March 2025. Walking roughly 20 km daily, he urges others to adopt a healthy lifestyle. “The body is a divine gift. We must improve society by avoiding harmful habits like smoking and drinking,” he says.
A retired energy department employee, Abhiram now devotes his life to social causes. He has a son working as an engineer and two married daughters.
