Pahalgam: A massive fire broke out at a hotel in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam early Tuesday, damaging multiple structures, while a man died in a separate accident during the firefighting operation, officials said.

The blaze erupted at Hotel Asal Resort in Anantnag district, rapidly spreading and engulfing at least three structures and a vehicle.

Fire engulfs hotel structures

According to officials, the fire broke out in the early hours and quickly intensified, prompting an immediate response from the fire and emergency services.

Several fire tenders were rushed to the spot to control the flames. However, the operation was hampered by multiple LPG cylinder explosions within the premises, which made it difficult for firefighters to approach the site safely.

Despite the challenges, teams managed to bring the situation under control after several hours of effort.

No direct casualties from blaze

Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported as a direct result of the fire. However, extensive damage was caused to the hotel property, with three structures and a vehicle completely gutted in the incident.

The extent of financial loss is yet to be assessed.

Man killed in accident during operation

In a tragic turn, a man lost his life during the firefighting operation. Officials said the victim, an employee of a nearby hotel, was allegedly hit by a reversing fire tender at the site.

He sustained critical injuries and died on the spot, turning the incident into a fatal mishap despite no deaths being caused by the fire itself.

Cause of fire under investigation

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the blaze. Initial reports have not confirmed the source of the fire, though officials indicated that further inquiries are underway.

Safety protocols and fire preparedness at the hotel are also likely to be examined as part of the probe.

Conclusion

The incident highlights the risks associated with fire emergencies, especially in areas where LPG cylinders are present, complicating rescue operations. While the fire itself did not claim any lives, the accidental death underscores the need for enhanced safety measures during emergency response operations.
