New Delhi: A 40-year-old woman, the daughter-in-law of a prominent pan masala business family, was found dead at her residence in Southwest Delhi’s Vasant Vihar on Tuesday, with police stating that preliminary evidence points to suicide. A purported note recovered from her room indicates ongoing marital discord, officers said.
Woman found unresponsive in bedroom
According to Delhi Police sources, the woman was discovered in a bedroom on the second floor of a bungalow owned by her husband’s family. The couple lived together in the house, which is among several properties the family owns in Vasant Vihar.
Police said the husband found her around 12.30 pm after returning from the gym. He had initially been alerted by his mother, who told him that his wife was not responding to calls. “He went upstairs and found her in the bedroom… both of them were staying in the same house,” an investigating officer said.
The woman was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Notes refer to marital discord
During the search of the room, police recovered a diary and handwritten notes that reportedly mentioned issues in the marriage. An investigator said the notes contained phrases such as “no love and trust” and stated that she did not blame anyone for her decision.
Officers confirmed that aside from seven to eight domestic staff members, no other family members were present when the incident occurred.
Marriage of 14 years and two children
Police said the couple married in 2010 and have two children — a 14-year-old son and a five-year-old daughter.
A senior officer said an inquest has begun under CrPC provisions. “A team of doctors will conduct the post-mortem today. No formal complaint has been filed by the woman’s family so far. Statements from all her relatives will be recorded. Further inquiry is underway,” the officer added.
Investigation continues
Police are examining the notes, electronic devices, and CCTV footage from the residence to reconstruct the sequence of events and verify the circumstances leading to the woman’s death. Officers said they are also speaking with domestic workers and neighbours as part of routine procedure.
