The parents of the postgraduate trainee doctor who was brutally raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in August have voiced their frustration over the role played by the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in demanding justice for their daughter.

The father of the deceased expressed his disappointment, saying that it felt as though the incident had been forgotten by the principal opposition party of West Bengal. “But we cannot forget our daughter. We will protest on the road. Common people are with us. Junior doctors are with us,” he said, adding that they would participate in a rally organized by the Junior Doctors Front at the Swastha Bhavan, the health department’s headquarters.

The mother of the victim raised concerns about the reinstatement of certain junior doctors accused of “patronizing a threat culture” in the state’s medical colleges. She questioned the state’s commitment to bringing all those responsible for the crime to justice. Despite the political climate, the parents vowed not to remain silent, asserting that their movement for justice would not fade away.

The parents also met with BJP MLAs, including Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, on November 26. Adhikari stressed the importance of seeking the truth behind the crime and demanding exemplary punishment for those responsible.
