Kolkata: A sessions court in Kolkata on Thursday convicted three accused in the Park Street gang-rape case, which took place in 2012. The court will pronounce the sentence tomorrow.
Main accused Kader Khan and another accused named Ali are still absconding.

Additional Sessions Judge Chiranjib Bhattacharya of City Sessions Court pronounced Ruman Khan, Naser Khan and Sumit Bajaj guilty of gang-rape committed in February, 2012.

The accused were found guilty under Sections 376 (2)(g) (gang-rape), 120B (criminal conspiracy) 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of IPC, Chief Public Prosecutor Tamal Mukherjee said.

The victim, who had appeared in public several times and said she had no inhibition in publishing her name, died of encephalitis in March this year.

The 40-year-old from the Anglo-Indian community is survived by two daughters.

The victim had been picked up in a car in front of a night club at Park Street in the heart of the city on February 05, 2012, and gang-raped inside the moving car before she was thrown off near a road crossing.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had courted controversy after she had dubbed the incident as “fabricated”.
