As the summer season approaches, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is stepping up its efforts to ensure residents have access to clean and free drinking water. In a proactive move, the PMC has decided to set up drinking water facilities at 480 locations across the city to help combat the scorching heat.
Municipal Commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar directed officials to take immediate action, ensuring that submersible pumps and water taps across the city are fully operational during the summer months. This initiative aims to make fresh drinking water easily accessible in public places, particularly at spots where crowds gather.
Key Highlights of the Plan:
- 375 submersible pumps will be installed across all wards in Patna, with five sites identified per ward for the placement of these pumps.
- ‘Nagar Neer’ water facilities will be set up at 10 public spots, and ‘Pyaau’ (water kiosks) will be placed at 20 locations across the city.
- These facilities will be managed by Swachhangini, a group of women sanitation workers, who will oversee the distribution of clean water.
- The water services are set to begin by the last week of March, just in time for the rising temperatures.
“We are committed to providing free drinking water to the public,” said Parashar, adding that the water facilities would help ensure that people don’t face any inconvenience during the summer.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the PMC to make the city more livable and ensure public health and well-being during the hot summer months.
