The incident took place on August 4 in Deori Kala village near Chhapara in Madhya Pradesh, where Subhash Pancheshwar and his family were sleeping when their pet parrot began making loud, unusual cries.
The family woke up to investigate and discovered a cobra inside the bird’s cage. By then, the parrot had already died after being bitten by the venomous snake.
The family called snake rescuer Shivam Mudiya, who safely removed the cobra and released it into the forest, according to reports.
A heartbreaking sacrifice
The parrot’s warning gave the family the chance to wake up and respond before the snake could move further into their home. While it is impossible to know exactly what might have happened otherwise, the bird’s alarm calls alerted the sleeping residents to the danger.

A separate incident reported from Narmadapuram also involved an injured Indian black cobra. A labourer noticed the snake after his dog repeatedly barked and alerted authorities. Wildlife rescuers treated the injured snake before it was released safely into its natural habitat.
During encounters with snakes, experts advise people not to approach, corner or attempt to kill them. Contacting trained snake rescuers or the forest department can help protect both people and wildlife.
