Modi reflected on Naidu’s journey from student politics in Andhra Pradesh to his impactful tenure as Vice President. He commended Naidu’s eloquence, wit, and focus on development, noting his ability to navigate Indian politics with humility and integrity.
Modi recalled their long association and Naidu’s dedication to the Sangh Parivar, inspired by the vision of putting the nation first. Naidu’s involvement in the anti-Emergency movement and his leadership in protecting democratic principles during political upheavals were also highlighted.
Despite challenging political tides, Naidu consistently emerged victorious, strengthening the BJP in Andhra Pradesh. His oratory and dedication to legislative affairs earned him respect, even from political stalwarts like NTR.
In the 1990s, Naidu’s efforts caught the attention of the BJP central leadership, leading to his significant role in national politics as the Party’s All India General Secretary. He played a pivotal role in bringing the BJP to power and served as the National President.
Modi shared how Naidu chose the Rural Development Ministry when offered a ministerial position by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, driven by his roots in the villages. Naidu was instrumental in launching the ‘Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana’ and later played a key role in urban development initiatives like the Swachh Bharat Mission.
As Vice President, Naidu enhanced the dignity of the office, supporting young, women, and first-time MPs. His leadership during the removal of Articles 370 and 35(A) was a significant moment, reflecting his commitment to a united India.
Modi also touched on Naidu’s personal interests, including his love for reading, writing, and promoting Telugu culture in Delhi. Despite his love for food, Naidu’s commitment to fitness remains evident in his active lifestyle.
Even after his Vice Presidency, Naidu remains engaged in public life, discussing national developments with Modi.
