Agra: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the priority corridor of the Agra Metro today through a virtual ceremony, while Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and various leaders embarked on the inaugural train journey from Taj Mahal station to Taj Mahal East station in Agra.
Starting Thursday, commuters will have access to metro services along the 6-kilometer corridor, with stops at Taj Mahal East, Captain Shubham Gupta, Fatehabad Road, Taj Mahal, and Mankameshwar Temple stations.
According to an official statement, the priority corridor, inaugurated remotely by the Prime Minister from Kolkata, comprises three elevated and three underground stations.
During the flagging off ceremony at Taj Mahal station, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the significance of Agra Metro in providing world-class public transportation for locals and tourists, highlighting Agra’s historical and cultural importance.
Adityanath commended the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) for completing the first phase of Agra Metro ahead of schedule, acknowledging its contribution to making Agra a modern city.
He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for initiating the Agra Metro project and congratulated the city’s residents. Adityanath also mentioned other ongoing projects aimed at transforming Agra into an IT hub.
The launch of Agra Metro further solidifies Uttar Pradesh’s status as a state with metro facilities in several cities, including Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida, and Kanpur.
The flagging off ceremony saw all six metro stations adorned for the occasion. Subsequently, Yogi Adityanath, Union Minister of State for Health SP Singh Baghel, along with other BJP MLAs and MPs, traveled from Taj Mahal metro station to Taj Mahal East metro station.
