Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed deep grief over the demise of noted industrialist Mohan Lal Mittal, father of global steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal. Mohan Lal Mittal passed away in London on January 15 at the age of 99.
PM recalls Mittal’s contribution and values
In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister said Mohan Lal Mittal distinguished himself in the world of industry while remaining deeply committed to Indian culture and values. He also noted that Mittal was actively involved in several philanthropic initiatives, reflecting his dedication to social progress.
“Pained by his passing. I will cherish our various interactions. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” the Prime Minister said.
Lakshmi Mittal pays tribute to his father
Lakshmi Mittal, Executive Chairman of ArcelorMittal, described his father as an extraordinary man whose strong religious beliefs and work ethic guided him throughout his life. He said Mohan Lal Mittal died peacefully, surrounded by family, just months short of his 100th birthday.
Recalling his early life, Lakshmi Mittal said his father hailed from a humble and caring family in Rajgarh village in Rajasthan and showed determination from a young age to rise above his circumstances. He firmly believed that hard work was the key to success and developed a keen interest in commerce during his student days.
A life rooted in family and humility
Despite his achievements in business, Mohan Lal Mittal remained deeply family-oriented and maintained close personal bonds. He is survived by five children, 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Lakshmi Mittal said his father made it a point to stay connected, regularly calling family members and attending important milestones whenever possible.
ArcelorMittal, in a statement, said Mohan Lal Mittal believed in building businesses founded on integrity, purpose and social responsibility. Beyond his professional legacy, he will be remembered as a devoted family man, admired for his humility, wisdom and compassion.
