New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly received an online death threat ahead of his visit to Australia next week, with the threatening message appearing in the comments section of a Facebook post promoting the “Melbourne Meets Modi” community event. Australian authorities are investigating the matter after it was reported to the Australian Federal Police.

Threat posted on Facebook

The alleged threat was posted from a Facebook account using the name ‘Abu Mustafa’ under a post announcing the “Melbourne Meets Modi” event, scheduled to be held at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on July 9.

According to reports, the comment contained a threatening message directed at the Prime Minister ahead of the public event.

The matter has reportedly been brought to the attention of the Australian Federal Police (AFP).

Australian authorities launch investigation

According to Australian media reports, investigators have identified the Internet Protocol (IP) address associated with the social media post.

Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the message and assessing whether any criminal offences have been committed under Australian law.

There has been no official statement so far regarding any arrests or further action in the case.

PM Modi’s three-nation tour

Prime Minister Modi will undertake a three-nation tour from July 6 to July 11, visiting Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand.

He will begin the visit in Indonesia from July 6 to July 8, followed by Australia from July 8 to July 10, before concluding the tour in New Zealand on July 10 and 11.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the visit aims to strengthen cooperation in defence, trade, maritime security, critical minerals, cybersecurity, supply chain resilience and emerging technologies.

Australia visit to focus on strategic ties

During his stay in Melbourne, Prime Minister Modi will hold bilateral talks with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as part of the third India-Australia Annual Summit.

The discussions are expected to cover expanding cooperation in defence, critical minerals, cybersecurity, emerging technologies and resilient supply chains.

According to the MEA, Modi will also call on Governor-General Sam Mostyn, participate in the India-Australia CEOs Forum, and address members of the Indian diaspora at the “Melbourne Meets Modi” community event.

New Zealand visit after four decades

Following the Australia leg of the tour, Modi will travel to Auckland at the invitation of New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.

The MEA said the visit will be the first by an Indian Prime Minister to New Zealand in nearly 40 years.

The two leaders are expected to review bilateral cooperation across trade, commerce and defence, while Modi will also interact with business leaders, sports personalities and members of the Indian community.

Security under focus

The reported online threat has drawn attention as preparations continue for the Prime Minister’s engagements in Australia.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the social media post, while security arrangements are expected to remain stringent during Modi’s overseas visit.
