NAMAKKAL: Police in Namakkal district have arrested two men in connection with the brutal killing of a 65-year-old woman, Samiyathal, from Kulathupalayam village. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday when the woman was attacked with a saw, sustaining serious injuries to her neck and mouth.
Despite being gravely injured, Samiyathal managed to call her family, who rushed her to a private hospital in Coimbatore. Sadly, she passed away around 9 a.m. the same day.
Namakkal SP S Rajesh Kannan formed four special teams to investigate. Through interrogations, CCTV footage, and phone record analysis, the police identified and apprehended the suspects—Anandaraj and Ajithkumar—from Kulithalai in Karur district.
Anandaraj had previously worked on Samiyathal’s farm and at her daughter’s oil mill but was dismissed due to poor conduct. He reportedly held a grudge after being reprimanded by her daughter, Krishnaveni. Investigations revealed that Anandaraj, accompanied by his friend Ajithkumar, visited Samiyathal’s farmhouse around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday and attacked her.
The duo fled on a two-wheeler registered in Anandaraj’s name, which helped police trace and arrest them. Both have been remanded to judicial custody.
