TIRUVALLUR: Tension gripped the Tirupati highway on Thursday afternoon when a dramatic chase ended with a policeman being dragged by a car driven by a wanted criminal.

According to sources, the incident unfolded as officers from Zam Bazaar police station received a crucial lead about the whereabouts of Alagu Raja, a dreaded A+ category offender known for several serious crimes, including robbery and homicide. Acting swiftly, a team was dispatched to Thirupachur, where the suspect was reportedly hiding.

Around 2 pm, Sub-Inspector Anand Kumar and Head Constable Shankar Dinesh spotted Raja’s vehicle and began tailing it on their motorcycle. As they closed in, the officers attempted to intercept the car and commanded the driver to halt.

Instead of stopping, Raja abruptly turned the wheel and tried to flee. In a desperate effort to prevent his escape, Dinesh grabbed onto the driver’s door, attempting to reach the ignition key. However, Raja accelerated, dragging the constable along the road for nearly a kilometre.

Eventually, Dinesh lost his grip and tumbled onto the tarmac. Fortunately, thanks to his helmet, he avoided any serious head trauma and escaped with only minor abrasions.

Police have intensified efforts to track down Alagu Raja, who managed to evade capture. Authorities are also reviewing security footage and checkpoints along the route.

This reckless attempt to escape highlights the dangers law enforcement officers face in the line of duty.
