Thrissur: A 32-year-old man lost his life in a heartbreaking road accident on Wednesday morning after trying to dodge a pothole. The victim, identified as Vishnudath from Punkunnam, fell off his scooter and was fatally run over by a bus.
The mishap occurred at around 7.45 am near the Kottappuram Railway Overbridge on MG Road. Vishnudath was returning from a morning visit to the Vadakkumnathan Temple, accompanied by his mother, Padmini, who was riding pillion.
In an attempt to avoid a large pothole, Vishnudath lost control of the two-wheeler, causing both of them to fall. Tragically, he came under the rear wheels of a bus and died on the spot. Padmini sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Thrissur Medical College Hospital, where she remains under treatment.
The police have begun an official inquiry into the incident. Meanwhile, the accident has sparked fresh outrage among locals, who have repeatedly raised concerns over the neglected and dangerous condition of MG Road, especially near the overbridge stretch.
Civic groups are now demanding urgent road repairs and safety measures to prevent further loss of life.
