A pregnant woman who fell nearly 20 feet from a culvert following a motorcycle collision in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone district was rescued by passers-by and later gave birth to a baby girl at a government hospital on Friday night.

The accident occurred near Sirwel village in Bhagwanpura block when Hiralal, a resident of Mohradi village, was taking his pregnant wife Peru Bai and his sister-in-law to the government hospital in Sirwel on a motorcycle.

Motorcycle collision leads to fall

According to reports, the accident took place around 5 pm near a small bridge (Jhula Pulia) in Sirwel. A motorcycle coming from the opposite direction collided with their vehicle.

The impact of the collision caused all three riders, along with the motorcycle, to fall nearly 20 feet from the bridge. While the motorcycle landed on rocks, the riders fell into a water-filled pit below.

Despite the presence of sharp stones and rocks in the area, the three individuals escaped with minor injuries.

Locals rush to rescue

Local residents Vikram Thakur and Ramesh Solanki, who were passing through the area, noticed the accident and quickly rushed to help.

With the assistance of the victims’ relatives, they pulled the pregnant woman out from beneath the bridge and moved her to a safer location.

They then informed Umariya panchayat secretary Praveen Jaiswal, who arrived at the spot along with villager Bathiya Kanase in a four-wheeler.

The injured were then transported to the Sirwel government hospital for treatment.

Baby born shortly after hospital admission

According to Khargone Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr Daulat Singh Chauhan, the woman went into labour shortly after reaching the hospital.

She delivered a healthy baby girl weighing 2.4 kg.

After initial treatment, both the mother and the newborn were referred to the district hospital for further medical care, where they are currently undergoing treatment and are reported to be stable.

The incident has been widely praised for the swift response of local residents, whose timely assistance helped ensure the safety of both the mother and her newborn child.
